“What is Steam Cleaning?”
There are many varied methods of steam cleaning your carpets. The correct term for steam cleaning of carpets and upholstery is in fact "hot/cold water extraction". The method we use is:
Step 1 - Carpet is vacuumed.
Step 2 - Carpet is sprayed with biodegradable cleaning solution.
Step 3 - Carpet is rotary agitated to ensure soil separation.
Step 4 - Any remaining spots and stains are treated.
Step 5 - Carpet is washed (steam cleaned).
Step 6 - Carpet is rinsed (rinse is applied for pH balance and to ensure no residue is left in carpet).
Step 7 - Deodoriser is applied.
Allow 6 – 8 hours for carpets to dry. We recommend windows and doors to be opened for maximum ventilation, and fans to be used if available.
“What is Dry Cleaning?”
Dry Carpet Cleaning is an alternative to steam cleaning. The method we use is:
Step 1 - Carpet is vacuumed.
Step 2 - Carpet is sprayed with water-based dry cleaning solution.
Step 3 - Spots and stains are treated.
Step 4 - Carpet is Dry-cleaned using the Bonnet method (detergent spray is absorbed by a buffing pad) or Encapsulation method (dry crystals).
Step 5 - Carpet is raked to reset the pile.
Allow 1 – 2 hours for carpets to dry. We recommend windows and doors to be opened for maximum ventilation, and fans to be used if available.
“Should I ask for Dry Cleaning or Steam Cleaning?”
If your carpets are extremely soiled, you will need to have them steam cleaned. Dry cleaning will not remove as much soiling as steam cleaning.
If you wish to have your carpets cleaned for appearance or cosmetic reasons then either system will work, as long as the carpets are not heavily soiled. If you wish to have your carpets cleaned for health reasons, then we recommend steam cleaning as this will remove more solid particles trapped in the carpet.
If you have your carpets cleaned on a regular basis you should consider alternating between the two systems.
- Steam cleaning in the summer months
- Dry carpet cleaning in the winter months
It is not advisable to dry carpet cleaning every time they require cleaning. Your carpets should be steam cleaned between dry cleans.
